The action takes place in Athens in the 1900s.

“Anaparadiadis”

Anaparadiadis, a young lawyer from Athens, is pursued on Aiolou Street by Spathadis, a bailiff and tax collector, who seeks to arrest him in order to collect the business tax. He manages to escape by taking refuge in the house of the Athenian spinster, Melpomene. Unfortunately for him, Melpomene is Spathadis’s sister, who also arrives at the house.

Faced with the risk of arrest and personal detention, Anaparadiadis agrees to marry Melpomene, a marriage forced upon him, in exchange for the payment of his debt. However, Spathadis agrees to take on all the wedding expenses and allows Anaparadiadis to stay hereafter at his house, because he‘s in arrears with his own rent.

“He doesn't have the skills”

Psorilis, a poor swindler falls in love with a beautiful seamstress who intends to marry her, but she imposes a condition on him that he must first be appointed to a public post. However, not having the necessary qualifications and skills, he comes to the need of his friend and member of parliament Kopritis, who does not have a good reputation among the deputies. Trying to convince the MP to appoint him, he blurts out that Mariori has a dowry and shares. Kopritis now has another priority and purpose, but things don’t go according to plan…
