What role do you play on the committee, and what does that involve?
I like to think of myself as General Dogsbody; not one of the named roles (and the major responsibility that's associated) but still able to be involved to a degree with the running of the society. In the first meeting of the season, I was appropriately given the label "Youth Voice", although I'm still trying to figure out that particular job description...
Why did you decide you wanted to be a committee member?
Predominantly I wanted to have a hand in how the society was run. I know I've made contributions and suggestions here and there, but I wouldn't be able to name anything specific.
There's just so much that goes on behind the scenes!
What sparked your interest in joining WBDS?
I've always enjoyed the performing arts, landing the part of Nigel in an amateur production of Adrian Mole in 2007, then trying unsuccessfully to get a part in the uni production of Edward Scissorhands.
Back in 2014 I landed a job in East Leake (ironically where I live now), and was strongly advised to "move to Nottingham". I found a flat in West Bridgford, searched for drama societies in West Bridgford to get back into amateur dramatics, and the rest - as they say - is history.
What's your favourite WBDS production you've been involved with?
I've been involved in many productions over the last 10 years (that long already?), and I've enjoyed many of them for different reasons: the complete panic backstage when a page and a half accidentally gets skipped in a performance of Ding Dong, the energy between everyone in A Christmas Carol (not to mention the turkey!), the surreal nature of Six Characters...The list goes on.
I have many I'd consider favourite but if I had to pick one, The 39 Steps springs to mind: a cast of 4, a million different costumes, and the ordered chaos backstage, yet we managed to pull it off in front of a sold out audience.
What are you looking forward to most in the coming year?
As someone making their directing debut in July's One Acts, I would have to say that. The first lesson learned is how much thought and preparation goes into a show before auditions roll around.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of the theatre?
Murdering my friends on a weekly basis (or most likely regularly being one of multiple victims). To put it another way: a weekly game of Among Us with a group of friends.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
Telekinesis, hands down. Why? No longer would I play Twister past an obstacle course to get something off the shelf, or get up to grab that thing that's just out of arm's reach.
